It seems that Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is just going to be one of those guys that has to spend the entirety of his career proving himself to people. We've been tracking these ESPN rankings that they did with the help of executives, coaches and players around the league. The Lions have managed to pop up on a lot of them. On Tuesday they dropped the receiver rankings. St. Brown did not make the cut.
He didn't make the honorable mention section either. His name can't be found until you get to the bottom of the page where it says "also receiving votes." It looks like St. Brown is going to have go back into his journal and make another list.
Some of the names that are ahead of St. Brown are already on that list. Guys like Ja'Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith are all ahead of him in some capacity. This just doesn't seem right. Let's look at some numbers real quick.
There's 10 guys on the tactual list and then six guys in the honorable mention list. Let's see how St. Brown measured up with them in 2022.
| Player | Receptions | Receiving Yards | Receiving Touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|
1. Justin Jefferson | 128 | 1,809 | 8 |
2. Davante Adams | 100 | 1,516 | 14 |
3. Ja’Marr Chase | 87 | 1,046 | 9 |
4. Tyreek Hill | 119 | 1,710 | 7 |
5. Cooper Kupp | 75 | 812 | 6 |
6. Stefon Diggs | 108 | 1,429 | 11 |
7. A.J. Brown | 88 | 1,496 | 11 |
8. D.K. Metcalf | 90 | 1,048 | 6 |
9. Terry McLaurin | 77 | 1,191 | 5 |
10. CeeDee Lamb | 107 | 1,359 | 9 |
Deebo Sameul | 56 | 632 | 2 |
Mike Evans | 77 | 1,124 | 6 |
Tee Higgins | 74 | 1,029 | 7 |
Garrett Wilson | 83 | 1,103 | 4 |
Jaylen Waddle | 75 | 1,356 | 8 |
DeVonta Smith | 95 | 1,196 | 7 |
Amon-Ra St. Brown | 106 | 1,161 | 6 |
That sure says a lot. St. Brown had more receptions than half of the guys above him. He had more receiving yards than a lot of them too. I don't know why the NFL is not ready to accept St. Brown as one of the best receivers in the league yet, but knowing St. Brown and the chip on his shoulder, he probably plans to make sure that he does make this list next year. I bet he does.
