Trevon Diggs is entering a contract year, and the Dallas Cowboys are going to have to decide on what to do with him soon.

It would behoove the Cowboys to get ahead of the game and get it done now, but contracts aren't always that easy to get done. One guy who knows all about that in Dallas is the franchise's all-time leader in receiving touchdowns, Dez Bryant.

On his personal spaces, Bryant mentioned that he and Diggs have had some dialogue about what's going on with the former second-round pick and his long-term security.

"I'll say this, me and Diggs we've been talking," Bryant said. "I'll just tell you some of the things I've been saying to Diggs. 'Diggs you've done something that a lot of cornerbacks have not done in their first three years in the NFL.' Name one. Name one cornerback besides the cornerback 81 what's his name Dick Train? That was him right? Dick Train right? In '81 who had the interception record? Nobody has done that.

"And I've I told Diggs, and I'm not going to get too deep into our conversation, but I told him I said hey, you don't compromise that. You don't compromise that. I'll say this, he is not trying to knock them across the head, I will say that, and I will say they're not trying to be fair to him."

Bryant had a monster 2014 season with over 1,300 yards and leading the NFL with 16 touchdown receptions which led to a first-team All-Pro nod. This was after he racked up over 2,600 yards and 25 touchdowns the previous two seasons.

As the 2015 campaign approached, Bryant made it clear that he wasn't showing up until he got compensated accordingly. He ended up signing a five-year extension worth $70 million with $45 million in guaranteed money.

Diggs had some struggles and missed four games as a rookie with a broken foot, but he still tallied three interceptions. In 2021, Diggs led the league with 11 interceptions, the most in the NFL since another Cowboy did it in 1981, Everson Walls.

Last season didn't see Diggs put up gaudy interception numbers but he added three more which gives him 17 since entering the league, the most of any player. Diggs held prominent receivers like Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase and Minnesota's Justin Jefferson to two receptions each in the process.

Diggs has accumulated 49 pass breakups since his rookie campaign as well which are also tops in the league. So as you can see, Diggs wasn't just a flash in the pan a few seasons ago, he's the real deal.

"I feel like what he's asking for he's rightfully deserving of that contract," said Bryant. "I believe it should all be guaranteed, that's my opinion. I'm going to get into full details of our conversation so it might not make sense.

"I'm proud to be able to have those conversations with him because I understand what he's going through. He's never been in that position before. He don't under his value. He don't understand who he is. He don't under what he truly means to that organization. He loves the game of football."

Diggs has put himself in a position to cash in, his play has been top-notch, to say the least. When it comes to Dallas, though, it's about getting past the frugal nature of Stephen Jones.

The contract situation involving Diggs will be a major talking point from now until the regular season starts.
