The New Orleans Saints are desperate for their first playoff appearance since 2020. For that to come true, the Saints' offense is going to have to match its stellar defense.

Quarterback Derek Carr is the prized addition to the Saints this offseason, and getting running back Jamaal Williams (led the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season) plus signing tight end Foster Moreau was important in helping with that, but the importance of Alvin Kamara shouldn't be a forgotten at all.

He certainly wasn't for Bucky Brooks of NFL.com recently. The respected NFL analyst named Kamara as one of the 10 running backs that make their team's offenses go.

Off-field issues aside, the seventh-year pro is perfectly suited for the RB1/WR2 role that offensive coaches covet in today's pass-happy league. Kamara has posted six straight seasons with at least 1,300 scrimmage yards, adding 71 total scores (49 rushing, 22 receiving) as the Saints' No. 1 offensive option. Although former All-Pro receiver Michael Thomas previously shared the marquee with Kamara as a five-star headliner, the current version of the Saints is sparked by a one-man show with an electric game. –Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

With quarterback Derek Carr on the roster, the Saints will need a running game that can keep defenses honest. Kamara and his speed and elusiveness can provide that and his pass-catching ability only makes life easier for guys like Thomas and Chris Olave at the wide receiver position on critical passing downs.

Kamara had a "down year" one could say by the standard that he's set. However, his 897 rushing yards and 59.8 yards per game were the third-most of his career in each category so even with significant time played in the league, Kamara is still a productive weapon.

The ability to wear many hats for the Saints' offense is what makes Kamara such a dangerous player and a focal point of opposing defenses weekly.
