A major crisis for the Cincinnati Bengals has been avoided as quarterback Joe Burrow's injury has been revealed.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports that Burrow did suffer a calf strain during the conclusion of the Bengals' second training camp practice.

While this wasn't stated by head coach Zac Taylor after practice concluded, it was heavily assumed based on the way Burrow's injury occurred. The fourth-year quarterback seemed to pull a muscle in his right leg when scrambling outside the pocket during 11-on-11 work.

The severity of Burrow's calf strain isn't known, but a mild strain usually takes players 1-2 weeks out of commission. Quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Jimmy Garoppolo each suffered a calf strain during the 2021 season and each missed one game, though Prescott was able to rest during the Dallas Cowboys' bye week.

With luck, Burrow may be only sidelined for a couple weeks and should return to practice before the Bengals' regular season opener on September 10 against the Cleveland Browns. The preseason may be out of the question for the sake of preserving Burrow alone.

One of these years, Burrow will have a injury-free and normal offseason. He's more than earned it at this point.
