The Baltimore Ravens needed to get quarterback Lamar Jackson some more firepower on the outside. Nelson Agholor was a decent addition, but Odell Beckham Jr. was certainly the main one.
Beckham hasn't played in an NFL game since Super Bowl LVI when he won a championship as a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Before going down with an ACL tear in the first half, Beckham looked like he could be a possible MVP candidate as he scored the game's first touchdown and had 52 yards.
It's been a long road back for Beckham, and of course, he's ready to get back to making huge plays and electrifying crowds, but he's also ready to pass his knowledge down to the younger guys.
“Experience. I learned from Victor Cruz. I’ve been around the Cooper Kupps, the Matthew Staffords, Eli Mannings … The list goes on and on," Beckham said on Thursday. "People who aren’t even receivers is who I learned from about how to be a leader and how to lead. I know [what] my role is. Obviously, I want to make plays, don’t get me wrong. I want to score touchdowns. I want to dance. I want to have fun, but definitely to help the younger guys, mentally, physically, spiritually, however I can. I embrace that role and that opportunity, and I take it very serious. I don’t mind being the older guy for once in the room.”
Agholor is a veteran himself, but he's never been the same caliber of player that Beckham has been plus he does have a year less of NFL experience, so he will certainly benefit from the former All-Pro.
The biggest beneficiary will be rookie Zay Flowers, though. What better way to come into your first NFL season as a young receiver than to have a guy of Beckham's status show you the ropes? That's a dream come true.
It hasn't been long, but Beckham likes what he sees from the promising playmaker.
“Definitely the smile that he has on his face, the joy … He definitely appreciates being here, and [it was good] just being able to spend time with in Florida and just kick it," said Beckham. "Now, [I] pick his brain and he picks my brain. I feel like I know my role. As you know as the guy, ‘I used to watch you in middle school.’ I’m a little older, so I know that I’m the leader and a follower all in the same breath, and I think that important for a leader to follow and listen. Just being able to be out here with him, now finally in the same colors, practice, and just knowing what we are working for and we are working towards. As much fun as we have, you know we all take it very serious.”
For any player that's looking for a new team, and Beckham certainly did this, the main thing is choosing a situation that best benefits him football-wise and financially as well. However, what makes it even sweeter when that takes place is the player feeling embraced by the fan base.
In a very short time, the "Ravens Flock" and the city of Baltimore have done that for Beckham.
“It’s the real deal. I'll be honest I can feel the love of the city. I can feel the excitement about the opportunity we have in front of us. Like I said, I take it serious. I take it very serious. I have to learn how to hit The Strut and all that and just have fun with it, embrace the opportunity, and win some games.”
After coming off a major injury, and him being 30 years old, the most important thing for Beckham is to be cautious before the season starts while also putting in major work.
As the season draws closer, what Ravens will be happy to know is that Beckham isn't restricted in any way or form.
“No, it’s just hot. Do you know what I mean? There’s no real limitations. It’s just about knowing every detail of the playbook, and that way when you know every single thing … It’s just Day Two, once you know every single thing, you could play fast. I could just feel myself wanting to continue to learn, continue to find something to get better at, continue to harp on one thing for the day to come back and correct it the next day. Again I don’t know percentages, I just feel good. I feel like I’m going to continue to work to get back to who I know I truly am.”
If Beckham gets back to anywhere close to what he used to be, Jackson will be one happy quarterback.

That’s for sure.
