Will Levis seeing the "bigger picture" at Titans camp

NASHVILLE — Quarterback Will Levis is in a fascinating competition in his first NFL training camp. Both he and former third-round pick Malik Willis are vying for the opportunity to back-up Ryan Tannehill in 2023.
Levis understands that nothing will be given to him based on draft pedigree.
"I feel like I can see the bigger picture a lot easier now," said Tennessee's 2023 second-round draft choice. "In the Spring, it was my first time going through everything. The first time learning the playbook and certain things that are asked of us at the quarterback position."
Tannehill and Willis are both ahead of Levis on the depth chart as things stand currently.
Coach Mike Vrabel's message to his young passers has been an emphasis on the context of each drill, team period or rep within the scope of what they are trying to accomplish. A one-on-one win for a skill player is not always something to celebrate. New mistakes are fine as long as you can identify them afterwards on tape and correct them as you go.
"I love (when one side of the ball 'wins the day,'" said Vrabel on Saturday. "I can't wait to see all the highlights. It's some good, some bad. Our offense makes play, defense obviously didn't.
"So that's how this goes. I mean I like the energy. I think the conditioning is there. I see guys turning and going to the stack and really we got to start focusing on fundamentals. Yeah, we're out there there's only one team for us to game plan against right now and compete against. But, we're also competing against everybody in this league. We're trying to improve, get in condition and focus on fundamentals and the details, the things that are important in training camp."
The Titans are a great case study for whether a team will chose to use the new NFL bylaw allowing a team to activate a third quarterback “during the game, if the club’s first two quarterbacks on its game day Active List are not able to participate in the game due to injury or disqualification."
That could make things more feasible for Tennessee to head into 2023 with Tannehill, Willis and Levis all on the active roster should the decision to keep only two become difficult to make. The spirit of the rule will likely be most applicable for teams heading into the 2023 postseason, but the Titans are worth keeping an eye on. Willis has not been perfect in his first week, but the improvement has been "glaring" as his head coach said year-over-year.
With preseason games in the near future, the Titans quarterback competition might be the most interesting on in the league.
