The Detroit Lions are off on Tuesday, so let's have some fun. On Monday, The 33rd Team put out a ranking of the 11 greatest wide receiver duos of all time. No Lions dup made the list. It's pretty understandable when you look at the duos that did. That's ok though, we can have our fun over here.
We're going to be ranking the five best Lions receiving duos of all time. Here's the thing, they have to have been together for more than a year. It can't just be one great season. Take that into account.
Without further adieu, let's jump into it.
5. Leonard Thompson and Jeff Chadwick

This duo isn’t going to blow you away. When you look into the history of the Lions receiving duos, you’ll quickly realize that the results are a little more modern. I had to include one duo that wasn’t in the 90’s and beyond. So I chose this group. Thompson and Chadwick were together on the Lions from 1983 to 1986. Together they put up a combined 322 receptions for 5,211 yards and 33 touchdowns. Not exactly lighting the league up, but not nearly the worst duo this team has put out in the past.
The highlight for this duo was the 1986 season when Chadwick put up 995 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Lions went 7-9 that season. Meh.
4. Golden Tate and Marvin Jones

These two were actually really good together. It’s a shame that Bob Quinn decided to break this group up in 2018. They played a total of 39 games together and they lit it up. Tate and Jones combined for 378 receptions, 5,136 yards and 30 touchdowns from 2016 to 2018.
While their numbers together were better in 2017, the highlight has to be that 2016 season. That might have been the most fun Lions season ever. At least until the 2023 season. 2016 was of course the last time the Lions made the playoffs.
Herman Moore and Brett Perriman

This is the group right here. There’s one reason for it. It’s because this group put up one of the greatest seasons by a receiving duo in NFL history in 1995. They combined for 231 receptions and 3,174 yards. No duo has touched that record since then. They also put up 23 touchdowns that season. To this day, the 1995 Lions offense is one of the best offenses ever and these guys were a huge part of it.
All told they put up 852 receptions, 11,435 yards and 69 touchdowns together. That's pretty nice.
2. Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate

Calvin Johnson is the greatest receiver the Lions have ever had. It’s a shame that he only had two years. where he had a solid side kick out there. They were two very good years though. Johnson and Tate combined for 348 receptions, 4,435 yards and 27 touchdowns. You can make an argument that this duo should be a little lower on the list, but the thing that brings them to two is that they were such a blast to watch together.
