The Denver Broncos have been front and center in the national media with the unfortunate injury to Tim Patrick.
Patrick, who had been recovering from an ACL tear, went down at practice and suffered a torn achilles and will be missing the entire 2023 NFL season. The devastating injury, while being at the forefront, furthers head coach Sean Payton's push for the next-man-up type mentality.
Surprisingly, there's another name that's been making some serious noise in camp and would continue a near-historic streak within the Broncos organization.
Undrafted rookie RB Jaleel McLaughlin has been turning heads left and right within the first few days of camp. The NCAA legend is doing everything in his power to make it to the 53-man roster, and it's looking promising for the young player.
McLaughlin, if he were to crack the 53-man roster, would continue an impressive historical achievement within the organization. Denver has had major success with undrafted players making the opening day roster as 18 of the past 19 years an undrafted rookie has made the Broncos' active roster, Mike Klis reports.
The college legend, McLaughlin, has been turning heads with his explosive running and ability to break any play off for a big gain or a touchdown. Even Patyton gushed over McLaughlin and what he's been able to do on and off the field.
"He's got a little burst and some toughness to him. He's the first one here… He's a guy you root for. He's shifty, he's got a good change of direction. It's funny when you put the pads on players for the first day then you really get an appreciation of how they look in pads."
It's not just Payton that is taking notice, reporters are gushing over McLaughlin and it seems like each day there's an explosive play with McLaughlin leading the charge.
If McLaughlin is able to compete and make the active roster, Denver will have a good problem on their hands with too many good running backs and maybe not enough carries to go around.
