The Detroit Lions welcomed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to practice on Monday and he made a big impression right away. For starters, Bridgewater chose an awesome number. He’s going to wear number 50 this year. I personally love it, but that’s not the big thing. The big thing is that he’s already taking on the task of getting Jameson Williams ready for the season.

Teddy Bridgewater is wasting no time getting to work with Jameson Williams. That’s going to be perfect for the second receiver who needs help. Bridgewater isn’t looking to just help William a though, he wants to push him to be better.

“He’s a guy that has unbelievable talent and I want to push him to those limits that he may have never been pushed to." Bridgewater said. "It’s a little tougher when practice is going on because the coaches have different guys they have to get going. Of he messes up on a play, you can critique him real quick, but you’ve got to get to the next play.

He’s a guy I really want to see have a long future in this league, because we all know he was a first-rounder for a reason. I just want to challenge him to be the best player he can be, be a true pro. And I’m excited I get to challenge him and really, I’m going to implement some things that are really going to make him hate me. But it’s going to be great for JG (Jared Goff), it’s going to be great for this offense, this organization. I’m excited for his future.”

Wow! Bridgewater is taking on Jameson Williams like he’s a special project for him.

This isn’t to say that Jared Goff hasn’t been working with Williams. He has. They’ve been working together since OTA’s and even spent time in California together, but they’re less likely to work together during the preseason, where Williams is expected to get a ton of work. That’s where Bridgewater comes in.

This is nothing new to the veteran quarterback. Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell talked last week about how big Bridgewater was for receiver development in New Orleans.

"I mean those receivers, I mean that was something he (Bridgewater) did really good for us. He would come in day before the game, and he would take those young receivers out, go through the whole game plan, tell them what they’re looking for, here is the coverage, here is what I’m thinking, how are you running this, ‘No I do not like that.’ He ran the scout teams, he was competitive, running cards. It was just awesome man. He’s that type of guy, an unbelievable teammate. He’s a pro. He’s a vet. He handles his business."

We’ll see soon enough how much he plans to push Williams. Bridgewater is expected to play in the Lions second preseason game against the Jaguars on Saturday. Can he form a strong bond and chemistry with him before then?

Jameson Williams will benefit more than anyone from Bridgewater addition

Nobody had a harder time than Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams did in the Lions preseason debut on Friday night. He had a big drop that should of been a touchdown. That moment deserves it's own scrutiny and I'm sure it will get that and then some. The real issue for Williams is that he […]
