The Las Vegas Raiders played their second preseason game of the season on Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams and the Raiders are two teams who had better expectations than how they finished the 2022 season. Both teams were bad and are looking for somewhat of a reset in 2023.
The two teams went head-to-head in the first half of the game.
First unit offense looked really solid
The first group offense as a whole did really well. We saw almost everyone on the drive, excluding, of course, Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams. But, from the starters out there, we could see that this offense could really work.
Now, this is preseason, and the Rams didn't have Aaron Donald in the game, but it's still impressive what they could do. The run game worked with Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah, and Brandon Boldon. We also saw some bootleg action plays and even some shots somewhat down the field. Overall, everything worked, especially on the first drive, where the Raiders scored.
Brian Hoyer was not very good
Hoyer wasn't good from really the moment he stepped on the field to take his turn at playing quarterback for the half. He made a few errors in his reads, missing some open guys on check downs. He got sacked where he could have gotten rid of the ball a bit earlier and maybe even thrown the ball away.
But also, maybe the worst play of the hall was his pick-six, which. It was one of the worst throws we have seen. Hoyer threw the ball directly to the defensive back, trying to float it over to the tight end, and the defensive back ran it back to tie the game. On his next possession, he couldn't connect on any pass and went three and out.
He had a few plays that were great, but the ones that were bad were too bad. His numbers will look decent, though.
Jimmy Garoppolo looked great in limited action
Entering this season, we really didn't know what to expect from Garoppolo, seeing he was injured most of last season and even signed his contract with a foot injury. A lot of people thought he was a downgrade from Carr, but his first drive was still really good.
Garoppolo went 4/4 on his first-ever drive in silver and black and threw for 39 yards. He also led the team to a score in the game's opening drive. He orchestrated an offense we all knew he could, and you can't ask for anything more.
Still more to come in the second half of the game, but the Raiders are up 20-10 at the half.

This should be a fun one.
