The Lions could be moving on from the Okwara brothers

The Detroit Lions are an everchanging team. With change comes those moments where you have to say goodbye to guys that you maybe don't want to see go, but you have to. The Lions might be on the verge of one of those moments. This time it's a lot different becasue the players they might be moving on from are brothers.
Romeo and Julian Okwara have been a part of the Lions organization for some time now. Romeo came in for the 2018 season after two years with the Giants and Julian was drafted by the Lions in 2020. Both guys have had great moments with the team and both guys have had some down moments too.
The Lions have now come to the point where it might be best for both parties if they moved on from the Okwara's. Both players are behind a lot of guys on the depth chart and they might be better off on different rosters.
On Romeo's side of things, he's behind Aidan Hutchinson, John Cominsky, Charles Harris, James Houston and Josh Paschal right now. There's just really no way he can see the field as much as he'd probably like to. That's why there's a real shot that he's released next Tuesday.
The only thing with Romeo is that if the Lions release him, they'll have to take on a little dead cap. It's only $3.5 million, but it's still some dead cap. It's an expensive release, but they'd be paying him a little over $5 million if he stays.
On Julian's end, it's a very similar situation. He's stuck behind all the same guys. But the difference is that Julian is only 25 years old and he's still on his rookie deal. He's a prime trade candidate.
There's already rumors out there that the New York Giant are interested in trading for Julian as well. That makes a lot of sense considering the Giants just got a week long look at him during the teams joint practices and preseason game with the Lions.
What could the Lions get for Julian? Probably something on the lower end like a sixth round pick. But hey, that's an extra pick. The Lions might even opted to do a player swap. Last week I did a list of receivers the Lions could trade for and Giants receiver Jaydon Mickens was on that list. A straight up player for player trade could be in order.
We'll see where things go from here, but this outcomes seems pretty likely at the moment.
