It's clear and obvious Evans doesn't want the distraction of contract talks hanging over his head during the season and one can't blame him. It's also a worrisome thought if you're the Buccaneers, because he's a free agent, next year and it's likely he'll be ready to have talks with any and all interested teams; as opposed to picking things back up where they left off with Tampa Bay.
And if Evans finishes 2023 with a 10th consecutive 1,000-yard season, you better bet plenty of suitors will come calling.
Honestly, it's pretty surprising how this situation has turned out, so far. Evans has always been seen as a staple on the Buccaneers and he's one of the few players that most foresee spending the entirety of his career on the team. He's also showing very few -if zero- signs of slowing down, despite recently turning 30.
If the Bucs can't get anything done by Saturday, it's not the end of the road, at all. However, said road will undoubtedly be much harder to traverse and the final destination may not be what the Bucs ultimately want.
