Dan Campbell was asked on Monday why Jahmyr Gibbs was the Lions guy in the draft and how the Lions feel about him now that they've had time to work with him. Campbell answered that question, but he also answered another one. The Lions liked Bijan Robinson.

"Certainly like both of those guys, you know, we liked Bijan too man." Campbell said. "But we just really felt like with where we were at, we got D-Mo (David Montgomery) here. And we just felt like with Gibbs there, man,  he fit what we needed perfectly and I just think it's rare to have a guy that you really feel like, in due time can be dynamic in the run and the pass game as a halfback. I just think there's so much versatility with him. So between that he fits what we do perfectly and he's just he has that potential to be dynamic in both areas of you know, the offensive side of the football, just to see if it's too good turn down."

It should come as no surprise that the Lions have been in love with Gibbs for a while now. Lions GM Brad Holmes had nothing but great things to say about him on his podcast appearance with Peter Schrager. He called Gibbs an position-less weapon.

I'm not saying that you can't get that from Bijan Robinson, but with Robinson you're going to get a lot more of him in just the run game. There's nothing wrong with that by the way, the Lions just already have a guy like that in David Montgomery.

It was just interesting to hear that the Lions may have been interested in Bijan Robinson. They certainly had a chance to take him before they traded down with the Cardinals to get that 12th spot. Still, even there the Lions were considering just taking Gibbs and getting it out of the way.  Robinson had a nice debut on Sunday, but so did Gibbs on Thursday. These two could be fun to watch for a long time. Maybe they'll even begin to get competitive with each other. We'll see in Week 3 when the Falcons are in town.
