The Lions may be saving some injured players returns until next week with Packers

The Detroit Lions have a lot of guys on the injury report right now. I mean, just look at this novel here. It's like reading The Great Gatsby or something.
It seems like some of these guys are starting to make their way back to the field soon. But, judging by some comments made by Dan Campbell On Wednesday, they might be making their way back tot he field next week when the Lions play the Green Bay Packers on a short week.
"I think more than anything we have to focus on right now. You know the here and now. There are a couple of guys that that it could be alright. If it's close enough. Do you try to play him this week knowing that maybe if you do then they're probably out for Green Bay anyway, so there's a couple of those guys I'm not gonna say who they are. But that may have a little bit but I think more than anything, it's about man, this one right in front of us and who will have available who we think can be available."
Just reading in between the lines here tells me that the Lions are looking to take a conservative approach and not rush anyone back for this game on Sunday in favor of guys being ready for the divisional game.
Now, I'm not saying that it's everyone on the report. I'm sure Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Frank Ragnow and maybe Kerby Joseph will play this week, but I think Taylor Decker, David Montgomery, Halopoulivaati Vaitai and Emmanuel Moseley could be returning next week in Lambeau.
The other reason I think that is because Decker worked with a trainer on Thursday. That's usually a good sign that a player is getting read to come back to practice. The other thing is David Montgomery seems to be walking a lot better right now, but isn't practicing.
I'm sure fans won't like this approach, but it makes sense in the end. You rush a guy back on Sunday, there's a solid chance you rushed back too soon and he misses the next game just four days later. If you take it slow, you've bought that player some extra days to get right before what is arguably a bigger game anyways since it's against a division opponent.
The other thing is the Lions aren't some team that got blown out last week or something. They lost by six points to a playoff team in an ultracompetitive game that they were in the entire time.
Friday will be the day that we get the most answers. If guys are coming back for limited practices only on Friday. we'll see what game designations look like and go from there. But right now, this feels like the strategy they could be taking.
Lions’ DC Aaron Glenn is pointing the finger at himself
Last Sunday was rough for the Detroit Lions defense. It might have been a tougher day for Lions' defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn though. His defense had given up big numbers to the Seahawks for the third year in a row. In three years the Lions defense has allowed a total of 1,180 yards and 136 […]
