The Cleveland Browns lost star running back Nick Chubb to a season ending knee injury last week in their primetime matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After that, they went looking for a replacement. One of those potential replacements was on the Detroit Lions practice squad.
That was a close one. The Lions may have either saw it coming or it was just a coincidence. The Browns lost Nick Chubb on Monday Night Football and the Lions signed Knight to their 53 man roster the very next morning.
So they were discussing taking on Knight in the middle of the night after the Chubb injury and/or they were at least discussing calling his agent early Tuesday morning. you can sign any player off of any teams practice squad as long as you sign them to your active 53 man roster.
That makes sense. I'm sure the Browns staff had a hard time sleeping on Monday night and made some phone calls. It's unknown just how close the Browns got to getting Knight at this time. They ultimately visited with Kareem Hunt on Tuesday and then signed him on Wednesday.
Lions fans should see on Sunday why it's awfully strange that no team ran as fast as they could to get Knight after the Jets moved on from him after signing Dalvin Cook and getting Breece Hall back from injury right at the cut deadline.
The Lions really stole a player here and luckily for the Lions, the Browns weren't able to come along and do some stealing of their own this week.
