Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told reporters Monday that there isn't a concrete update on Mike Evans' hamstring injury, but Evans will undergo some tests in order to find out the extent of the injury.
“Not at this time. They have to get some tests run when they come in," Bowles said Monday in reference to both Evans and starting safety Ryan Neal, who left Sunday's game early with a concussion. "We will have updates later.”
Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Evans will have an MRI done on his hammy in order to find out the extent of his injury. But, the overall belief is it's a mild hamstring injury.
That's obviously good news and it backs up what NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday on Good Morning Football.
“More of a hamstring tweak than anything else,” said Rapoport. “You could see him on the sidelines [and] on the stationary bike trying to get loose. It didn’t seem to be a major injury [and] reporters spotted him leaving the game and there didn’t seem to be a significant limp.
“This does seem to be minor. He will have some tests today just to be sure, but this does seem to be minor. Hopefully the next time the Bucs are on the field he is there, but obviously something for the team to monitor.”
Either way, it sounds like the Bucs dodged a bullet with one of their best players. The team enters its bye week this week, so the four-time Pro Bowler will have extra time to recover. Even if Evans can't go, the Bucs still have a WR1 in Chris Godwin to help carry the load. They even have some young, up-and-coming playmakers in Deven Thompkins and Trey Palmer, who both caught touchdown passes against the New Orleans Saints.
