The Pittsburgh Steelers have been without Pat Freiermuth for most of the year, and will continue to miss him for the foreseeable future.

Pittsburgh thought they had a backup plan in place via rookie tight end Darnell Washinton, but that simply isn't the case halfway through the season.

So instead of just playing it safe, and hoping that Muth gets back to 100%, it's time for Pittsburgh to make a move:

Washington Needs Time

The narrative on Washington coming out of Georgia was that while raw, the rookie could potentially blossom into a suitable starter down the road, while providing day one upside as a plus one in the blocking unit.

Well, the latter has been true:

The problem is, Washington has basically been a liability in the passing game to this point, even getting outstripped by Rodney Williams on Sunday vs. the Jaguars.

Coach T was sure to tell the media that was done for a game plan specfic reasons, but the truth is, if Washington was ready to contribute in the passing game, he would be on the field more.

Instead, the towering tight end has a lot of work to do when it comes to separating against NFL caliber defenders. And that's ok, he's only a few games into his NFL career.

What's not ok, is sitting by and just hoping things get better, especially on an offense that needs all the help it can get. I have already floated one popular tght end in Atlanta as a possible candidate via trade, and that may come to fruition in light of Atlanta's recent struggles in the win-loss column.

Either way, Pittsburgh needs to add some help at the position, and what better time than on trade deadline day.
