Dan Campbell names Graham Glasgow a full time starter

March 16, 2020 was a weird day. The Detroit Lions lost Graham Glasgow on that day when he signed with the Denver Broncos. Why was it weird? Because the Lions just let Glasgow walk out the door with seemingly no fight at all. He was easily one of their best offensive linemen. It was just weird. That's the only word I can come up with for this.
Glasgow went to Denver and things really started to trend down for him. Glasgow suffered a fractured ankle that ended his 2021 season in Week 9. When he got back, the Broncos started moving on from him and they ultimately released him after the season.
The Lions seemed like the perfect spot for him to be and reunion was set up when Glasgow signed a one-year deal with the Lions in March.
Glasgow came in and immediately started working with the first team during camp while the team brough back Halapoulivaati Vaitai slowly. When Vaitai got hurt in Week 2, Glasgow took over at right guard and he's been a part of the Lions offensive line since. A very good part in fact.
Glasgow is the fifth highest graded guard in the NFL right now with a 77.1 grade from Pro Football Focus. It's been a very big turnaround for him. It hasn't just been at right guard either. Since the Lions have been dealing with offensive line injuries, Glasgow has also played left guard and center this year. He's just a very good all around interior offensive lineman.
Glasgow has played so well that he's earned the permanent starting spot at right guard per Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell. Here was his response when asked if Glasgow would take over at right guard for the rest of the season:
"Yeah, I think that's fair. We're always assessing Big V
(Vaitai) and V is still working at it. But certainly Graham has been productive for us. And he's been productive at three different spots. I mean, left guard, center and certainly right guard before that. So he's been a big asset for us. I mean, that was a good signing for us to get and we're fortunate to have him. He's a steady, reliable piece for us."
The Lions will have a chance to have their best offensive line combination yet this coming Sunday with the returns of Jonah Jackson and Frank Ragnow. Having Glasgow locked in at right guard only makes this unit even stronger.
Detroit Lions Mailbag: Who’s replacing Ben Johnson?
The bye week is over and so is the week where we didn't do a mailbag. The Detroit Lions are back and so are the questions and answers. Let's jump into some of those shall we? It's hard to argue with the massive improvement the Lions defense has gone through. I think it's fair to […]
