Could the Lions be the best landing spot for Marcus Peters?
The Detroit Lions really need some help in the secondary. That's really been displayed in the past few weeks with teams giving Cameron Sutton and Jerry Jacobs all they can handle. The Detroit Lions really need some help in the secondary. That's really been displayed in the past few weeks with teams giving Cameron Sutton and Jerry Jacobs all they can handle. One intriguing option became available on Monday afternoon. That's former All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters.
The Raiders released Peters on Monday after he had been been benched in favor of some of the younger players on the team. He didn't light up the world with the Raiders like he did with the Ravens, Rams and Chiefs, but he did do this.
If you're asking me if I think Peters fits with the Lions, the answer is yes. I think this is a move that the Lions should make.
With that said, you have to know that this isn't going to be a huge thing where Peters comes in and he's a starter and the Lions secondary magically gets better. It will get better, but not by a ton or anything like that.
Peters can be a really good depth piece for the team. I don't think he steals a starting spot away. He'll jump Will Harris and become the Lions third cornerback and he will see the field, but he's not going to take over any starting spots. He's actually not had that bad of a season. He's currently graded out at 68.8 by Pro Football Focus. That's higher than Jacobs.
The other reason I like this move is because the oldest guy in the Lions secondary right now is Sutton at 28. The 30-year-old Peters can come in and play the mentor role for this group and he can school them on what it takes to be a very good cornerback in the league.
Here's the thing. He has to clear waivers first. The Lions are very low on the waiver wire at the moment. So if another wants them, they'll be able to claim him before he hits free agency. It wont cost much to do it too.
We'll see where it goes, but I think this is the best place for him and the Lions could use his help. Even if it's just a really good band-aid.
Could Frank Reich’s firing open the door for a Lions reunion?
The Carolina Panthers fired head Coach Frank Reich on Monday morning after the Panthers had a 1-10 start this season. There's some intriguing questions here that directly relate to the Detroit Lions. The first one is obvious, will the Panthers try to get Ben Johnson again? They took a shot at him this past offseason, […]
