The Philadelphia Eagles' loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round of the playoffs was disastrous.

There's no other way to describe it.

Winning the Super Bowl was the goal for the Eagles this season. And they had the roster to get it done. Sure, injuries made reaching that goal more difficult, but it's January — everyone in the NFL is dealing with injuries right now.

Ultimately, the Eagles just didn't get the job done.

And hearing quarterback Jalen Hurts' comments after the game almost certainly makes the loss even worse for Philly fans.

"I’m very appreciative of everything we’ve been through and fought through," said Hurts after the loss to the Bucs. "Obviously, we took a turn there and things didn’t end the way we wanted. But it’s simply not our turn. It’s not turn. We got a taste of it last year winning the conference championship and having an opportunity to play in our Super Bowl, and it wasn’t our turn then."

“It’s not our turn," added Hurts. "We’ve had the opportunities. We’ve had the crumbs. We’ve had everything to our disposal, but it wasn’t our turn. I can accept that. And I think we can accept that knowing that the sun will rise tomorrow. And there’ll be another opportunity to attack it.”

The fact that Hurts said he could accept the playoff loss and that it's not the Eagles' "turn" is deeply concerning.

It's not ever anyone's "turn" in the NFL. Great teams seize the opportunity. They own the moment.

Do you think Kobe Bryant would've accepted that it "wasn't his turn"? Would Michael Jordan? What about Tim Tebow when he was at Florida and the Gators unexpectedly loss to Ole Miss in the first month of the 2008 season? Tebow promised that Florida wouldn't lose another game the rest of the season and he delivered on that promise. He made it Florida's turn.

Hurts is a tremendously talented quarterback. But he didn't sound like an elite competitor on Monday night. The lack of a fiery response is concerning. The lack of a sense of urgency is concerning.

Elite competitors don't wait their turn. They make their turn happen. And until Hurts adopts that mentality, it's unlikely that he ever leads the Eagles to a championship.
