The third day of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine testing concluded yesterday.

With running backs, wide receivers, and quarterbacks taking the field.

To recap the day below is one winner and one loser from each position group.

Scouting Combine Winners & Losers:

RB:

Winner: Isaac Guerendo, Louisville

If Louisville RB Isaac Guerendo wasn't on your radar before the Scouting Combine, he should be now. Guerendo led all RBs with the fastest 40-yard dash (4.33) and the highest vertical (41.50"). He also had the 2nd furthest broad jump (10'9") to round out his elite day. I don't think many teams will consider Guerendo a day-one starter option. But teams looking for a change of pace RB or just a depth addition to their RB room should prioritize a player like Guerendo, who just showed how elite of an athlete he truly is.

Loser: Bucky Irving, Oregon

Oregon RB Bucky Irving has been a hot name among NFL Draft analysts over the last month. And many expected him to have a stellar testing session at the Scouting Combine to justify their love for him as a prospect. Unfortunately, that didn't come to fruition. Irving ended with the 7th lowest 40-yard dash (4.55) among RBs, the lowest vertical (29.50"), and the second-shortest broad jump (9'7"). With Irving being painted as one of the best change-of-pace RBs in this year's class, you'd prefer to see significantly better testing numbers.

WR:

Winner: Xavier Worthy, Texas

You could make the argument that Texas WR Xavier Worthy had the best individual combine performance of any player, no matter the position. Worthy ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any player at the combine this season, but his 4.21 run also set the single fastest 40-yard dash in the history of the Scouting Combine. His impressive numbers don't stop there, though, as he recorded the third-highest vertical of any WR in this year's class (41.00") and the fifth-furthest board jump. Worthy was already getting some first-round love before the Scouting Combine, but after this type of performance, I think it's safe to say he won't make it to day two of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Loser: Keon Coleman, Florida State

Before the Scouting Combine got underway, I told anyone who would listen that Florida State's Keon Coleman was going to test much better than the consensus. I personally pushed back towards these notions as I thought he would shock everyone with his performance at the Scouting Combine. Unfortunately, the person who ended up shocked was me after Coleman ran the second-slowest 40-yard dash of any WR at the 2024 Scouting Combine. He also ended with a middle-of-the-pack vertical (38.00") and broad jump (10'7"). A top-notch performance at the combine would have silenced most of his critics, but this type of performance has him on the fringe of becoming a day-two selection as opposed to the top-20 range I believed he would go prior to the scouting combine.

QB:

Winner: Joe Milton III, Tennessee

Tennessee QB Joe Milton III being a winner at the Scouting Combine shouldn't come as a surprise; his athleticism has been evident from the moment he stepped on the college football scene. But the fact he didn't run the 40-yard dash and still earned this honor is impressive. Milton III had the furthest broad jump of any QB (10'1") and the second-highest vertical (35.00"). And where he really impressed me was during his throwing sessions, where he had a much better day than I expected. His accuracy concerns are evident on tape, but he had a really good session yesterday, and he chose the perfect time to do so with 32 NFL decision-makers watching on.

Loser: Spencer Rattler, South Carolina

Just as I was surprised by Milton III, South Carolina's Spencer Rattler shocked me, but not in the same manner. He's always looked like a solid athlete on tape, but he struggled throughout testing. He ran the slowest 40-yard dash of all QBs who tested (4.95), the slowest three-cone (7.21), and the 20-yard shuttle (4.37). He also had a middle-of-the-pack vertical (32.00") and the shortest broad jump (9'0"). Rattler tested so poorly and needed a solid throwing session, but he was inconsistent throughout. After the Senior Bowl, I was told many around the league believed he could sneak into day two of the 2024 NFL Draft, but with this lackluster performance, I'm curious if he will fall back into the day three conversation.
