Many New England Patriots have been at TD Garden during the Boston Celtics impressive NBA Playoff run, and now that they have made it to the finals, players are excited to cheer them on.

So, on Sunday night, the Celtics chose to honor one very special Patriots legend.

According to the Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan, Matthew Slater was honored as the Celtics Hero Among Us for Game 2. It is given to one person who is an "outstanding individual who made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities."

It was presented to Slater during a commercial break.

Here is a video of the moment:

The special teamer retired after the 2023 season. He was drafted by the Patriots in 2008, and remained in New England for his entire career that spanned over 16 seasons.

Slater retired as a three-time Super Bowl champion, 10-time Pro Bowl selection, 13-time team captain, and five-time All Pro.

Considered to be one of, if not the best special special teamer in NFL history, there should be a spot reserved in Canton for Slater.

And while he is no longer going to be on the field, Slater is still going to be sticking around Gillette Stadium.

He has joined Jerod Mayo's staff, being in an advisor role. He is someone that Mayo can rely on to tell him the truth in his first year as head coach, but is also someone the players can trust when they need a sounding board.

So in terms of a hero, Slater certainly fits that title.
