The Cleveland Browns have trimmed their roster to now stand at 53 players. It is their initial roster and is subject to change ahead of Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Now, the Browns turn their focus to building their practice squad out. Practice squads can contain up to 17 players with one spot being designated for an International Pathway Player. We watched just how important the practice squad can be just last season with all of the injuries that piled up.

10 of the players on the practice squad must have two or fewer accrued seasons. There are no limitations on the other six players. Teams are allowed to protect up to four practice squad players each week, so they are not signed by another team.

NFL teams can designate up to two players from the practice squad each week. Players can be elevated three times in a season before they have to be signed to active roster or released. Players with two or fewer years in the NFL are paid weekly at a set rate. That salary is at $12,500 for the 2024 NFL season. On the other hand, the minimum weekly salary for a vet on the practice squad in 2024 is $16,800, while the maximum is $21,300.

Browns 2024 practice squad signings:

CB Mike Ford

A special teams’ ace that appeared in 16 games for the Browns last season. After parting ways with Tony Brown and Justin Hardee, it makes a ton of sense for the Browns to bring Ford back into the fold

LS Rex Sunahara

Sunahara handled much of the long snapping in the preseason with longtime snapper Charley Hughlett nursing an injury. This could mean the Browns may have to call Sunahara up early in the season.

WR Mike Woods II

Woods had a strong camp with Cleveland and returns as an option that they could bring up on game day. Woods is healed from his injury and a former draft pick of Andrew Berry.

DT Jowon Briggs

The Browns draft pick makes it back to the team. Would not be a surprise if the seventh-round pick played at some point for Cleveland this season.

CB Tony Brown II

Brown provides more special teams depth for Cleveland and was with them through the season. A proven veteran special teams ace.

WR Jaelon Darden

Cleveland wanted Darden back and have kept him the last couple of years after claiming him off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

S Christopher Edmonds

Another player that the Browns had through training camp and I thought could have interest on the waiver wire.

CB Justin Hardee Jr.

Cleveland has another special teams ace here that is a former Pro Bowler. They’ll have the guys to step up in that role if they need it.

T Germain Ifedi

Ifedi was signed as a free agent and waived yesterday. The Browns can’t have enough tackle depth, so keeping him around seemed apparent.

DE Sam Kamara

Kamara had a nice preseason and provides edge depth. I could see him appears in a game again in 2024 for Cleveland.

T Roy Mbaeteka (International Player Pathway Program)

This is the 17th player for Cleveland if they opt to add that many, since he is through the International Pathway Program.

WR James Proche II

Cleveland likes Proche as a returner and that would be his role if he makes it up to the active roster.

LB Winston Reid

Cleveland’s lone linebacker on the practice squad. Undrafted rookie that could prove depth there and had some moments in August.

TE Cameron Latu

Cleveland is reportedly bringing in the former San Francisco 49er that was drafted in the third round in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Alabama product did not appear in a game for the 49ers last season.

TE Blake Whitehead

Another tight end that the Browns are reportedly adding. Whitehead last spent time with the Arizona Cardinals.

RB Gary Brightwell
