NASHVILLE — Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is being traded from the Tennessee Titans (1-5) to the Kansas City Chiefs (6-0), sources confirm to A to Z Sports. Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the news Wednesday morning.

In giving the veteran a legitimate chance to compete for a Super Bowl this year, Tennessee admits its 2024 campaign is over eight weeks in.

Trading DeAndre Hopkins Was The Right Move By The Titans

The Titans receive a conditional fifth-round draft choice that can become a fourth-round pick in exchange for Hopkins, according to multiple reports.

Kansas City's wide receiver room has experienced considerable setbacks. Hollywood Brown was lost during the prseason to a shoulder injury, Rashee Rice sustained a knee issue that would cost him the year and JuJu Smith-Schuster experienced hamstring issues that will cost him some time last week. Hopkins provides immediate relief for the two-time defending champions.

Trading Hopkins is about the only thing that Tennessee has done right this year.

After investing heavily around quarterback Will Levis this offseason, the Titans have failed spectacularly. Week 7 saw them dismantled by a score of 34-10 on the road against the Buffalo Bills (5-2). It has been a comedy of errors for first-year coach Brian Callahan and his staff, who have not been able to find answers on offense who quarterbacks this team.

Back-up Mason Rudolph started for the injured Levis in Buffalo.

Hopkins signed a two-year, $26 million deal ahead of 2023 to link up with his former Houston Texan compatriots former head coach Mike Vrabel and former offensive coordinator Tim Kelly. Vrabel and Co. were cleared out in favor of Callahan this year with the intention of maximizing Levis and modernizing Tennessee's offense. No one has thrived in the Titans offense this year, but Hopkins' numbers were the worst statistical start to a season that the veteran has had through no fault of his own in his 12-year career.

Hopkins was targeted 21 times with 15 catches, 173 yards and one touchdown in six games for Tennessee. The only time Hopkins has produced less was in 2022, when he was suspended for the first six games with a violation of the NFL's PED policy.

He finishes his Titans career with 90 catches for 1,230 yards and eight touchdowns.
