NASHVILLE — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins scored his first touchdown with his new team on Monday Night Football and gave a subtle shoutout to the Tennessee Titans in the aftermath.
Late in the second quarter of Monday’s primetime matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Arrowhead Stadium, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Hopkins for a ridiculous 35-yard grab. Just a few plays later, Mahomes found Hopkins in the back of the endzone for a go-ahead touchdown.
Hopkins was targeted six times in the first half and had 6 catches, 66 receiving yards, and one touchdown. He finished the game with 8 catches, 86 yards, and two scores.
The Tennessee Titans traded Hopkins to KC on October 23rd and received a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
After scoring his first Chiefs touchdown, Hopkins celebrated by breaking out a signature dance from “Remember The Titans.” A clear homage to his former team and the city of Nashville.
The future Hall of Fame wide out was a standout player in the two-town blue and a fantastic fit in Music City. Heading in to the 2024 season, Hopkins told Titans media that he was as happy as he had ever been in his career. It seemed like Hopkins was in line for a contract extension with the team, but that was quickly extinguished by the Titans’ slow start to the season and Hopkins’ expiring deal.
Titans fans have to appreciate Hopkins showing love. He is missed in Nashville, but his success in Kansas City is great to see.
