NASHVILLE — Internally, the Tennessee Titans are feeling vindicated. Moving forward with President of Football Operations Chad Brinker and new General Manager Mike Borgonzi signals a significant shift in the club's direction.

Is Tennessee actually heading towards competency again?

Titans have full faith in their vision

Time will tell whether the NFL's worst team in 2024 finally got their direction righted.

Certainly, they should get no benefit of the doubt. Firing two general managers and a coach in each of the last three offseasons en route to landing on the combination of Brinker, Borgonzi and coach Brian Callahan has been a total mess. This time, however, the Titans are convinced that they've got it right.

“Mike’s experience speaks for itself: he has been part of the core team that delivered four AFC championships and three Super Bowls over the past five seasons,” said Titans Controlling Owner Amy Adams Strunk in a statement on Friday. “It’s the type of standard I want to build here in Tennessee. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and I’m excited for Mike to get started.”

No quick fixes lie ahead for Borgonzi in Tennessee.

His hiring does immediately bring some credibility to the proceedings, something the Titans have sorely lacked. When Borgonzi arrived with the future dynasty that is now the Kansas City Chiefs who advanced to their seventh straight AFC Championship Game on Saturday, they were coming off of a 2-14 seasons. Borgonzi is no front-runner.

He's done the dirty work to help contribute to one of the most impressive stretches of NFL football we have ever seen.

“During Mike’s 16 years in the league, he has been a key part of transforming the Chiefs from a two-win team to a three-time Super Bowl champion,” Brinker said when Borgonzi was hired. “During our meetings, he articulated a clear plan to build a championship standard in Nashville through consistency, discipline, and hard work. I’ve admired him for many years and I’m thrilled to add him to the team as our general manager.”

Tennessee's process might have been nightmarish up to this point.

Their most recent GM search was effective and efficient these last two weeks, resulting in the most qualified candidate on the market finding a home with them.
