If you think about where the New York Giants and where quarterback Aaron Rodgers are in their particular timelines, it's hard to find a reason to put them together. But without better options, it might happen soon.

According to NBC's Mike Florio, there were a lot of rumors at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis that Rodgers reached out to the Giants to show willingness to play there in 2025.

"There was talk at the Combine on Tuesday that Rodgers has reached out to the Giants. Usually, we don't traffic in things we've heard. Because we hear plenty of things that might or might not be true. The way I heard this specific thing, however, leads me to believe it's more likely than not true."

At this exact moment, the Giants have no quarterbacks on their 90-man roster. Tommy DeVito is an exclusive-rights free agent and will probably get back to the team, but it's still an obviously dire situation.

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers said his demands are for a team that wants him and a good team overall. It looks like it's getting harder for him to get both. The Los Angeles Rams were reportedly his preferred destination, but it could only happen if they had traded Matthew Stafford away, which won't happen.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are another option, but it sounds like they prefer to re-sign Justin Fields, a younger option more adequate to the long-term.

Aaron Rodgers started all 17 games for the New York Jets last season and will be released as soon as the new league year starts in mid-March. He was slated to make $37.5 million, but the price might go down based on the lack of interest.

In 2024, Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, a 90.5 passer rating.

He would certainly be a big improvement over what the Giants had. But at 41, it's hard to foresee a scenario where he sticks around until the team is in a realistic position to compete.

Nevertheless, general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll need to show immediate results to keep their jobs. Drafting a quarterback in the draft and having Aaron Rodgers as the bridge option doesn't sound so unrealistic under these self-preservation circumstances.

If Aaron Rodgers wants to keep playing, the Giants could be the only option—but also the best option to offer him some type of power in the decision-making processes, something he valued throughout his time with the Jets and a big part of his dissatisfaction in the final years of his stint on the Green Bay Packers.
