Strengths

  • Smooth Mover: Fannin isn't the fastest player in the world, but has plenty of speed for his position and every movement is intentional. Fannin glides in space, eating up yards with his long strides.
  • Versatility: No matter where you need Fannin, he can lineup there. In 2024, Fannin lined up 31.5% of plays in the slot, 25.3% out wide and 39.9% inline. He is a true mismatch weapon at the position perfect for a modern-day tight end.
  • Soft Hands: Fannin has excellent hands with just three charted drops on 128 targets per Pro Football Focus. He catches the ball well outside of his frame and SEcures most of what comes his way.
  • Winning In The Margins: As a pass catcher, it's important to win in contested catch situations and after the catch. Fannin caught 10 of 17 contested catch opportunities and 750 of his yards (55.9%) came after the catch.

Weaknesses

  • Blocking: Fannin has the effort down with blocking but he struggles with both technique and strength. Fannin too often misses with his hands and will lean in, losing his leverage,> Plus, he doesn't have a lot of core strength to drive defenders.
  • Breakaway Speed: Speed overall isn't an issue for Jeanty. He's got plenty of explosiveness and burst, but the breakaway speed isn't as consistent as you'd like to see from a projected first-round pick. He looks like someone who will run a 4.45 40-yard dash.

Player Evaluation

Fannin is an excellent tight end who can do a little bit of everything at the next level. While he won't be a great blocker for you right away, he will give it the effort that you need to see.

He is also used to producing at a high level. Fannin was the engine that had the Falcons' offense running this past season and produced at an extremely high level with 100 receptions on the year. Fannin might be better served staying in school one more year to improve his core strength and blocking acumen, as it's very difficult to grow quickly in that area once you get to the NFL.

Player Comparison

Evan Engram
Fannin is a really dynamic receiver who isn't quite there as a blocker. Now, Pro Football Focus has him highly graded as a run blocker, but the tape doesn't quite match that. It's eerily similar to Engram, who was a lethal pass catcher coming out of Ole Miss with some issues with blocking.

The biggest difference between the two is the hand. Fannin doesn't have drop issues whereas they have plagued the career of Engram. Even so, Engram has carved out a really nice career as a tight end in the NFL. Fannin can also carve out a nice career for himself if he doesn't improve as a blocker, but it would help him a lot to sustain success.
