The Buffalo Bills are entering the 2025 season as confident as ever that this will finally be their year that they get over the hump and represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

They spent this offseason improving their roster through free agency and the draft. A recent ESPN article shared that there is one more move the Bills need to make before the season arrives.

ESPN calls for the Bills to extend David Edwards ahead of training camp

Oct 20, 2024; Orchard Park, New York, USA; Buffalo Bills guard David Edwards (76) looks to block Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons (98) during the first half at Highmark Stadium.

"The Bills have two veterans on their offensive line entering free agency in 2026, and it would be a good idea to get at least one of them nailed down for an extra couple of years. I'm going with Edwards over center Connor McGovern, but the Bills should get by with either deal or both. Edwards was 16th among qualifying guards in pass block win rate (93.5%) last season and was also above average in run block win rate (73.1%). He'll be 28 during the 2025 season, so he still has plenty of prime left in his career."

ESPN's one final move for all 32 teams

David Edwards is entering his third season with the Bills and is coming off his first full season as a starter in Buffalo as their left guard. He didn't allow a single sack last season and only allowed two QB hits. In fact, even though he didn't log a start in 2023, he played 145 offensive snaps in 2023 and also never allowed a sack.

He is entering the final year of his contract this season, and if he puts up another successful year, he will hit free agency with the hope of a big payday. I certainly agree with Aaron Schatz's piece that extending Edwards would be an excellent move for the Bills. Not only has he earned a new deal, but paying him now could save Buffalo a significant amount of money compared to if they wait and let him hit the open market.
