The Cleveland Browns went 3-14 last season — just one year after winning 11 games and making the playoffs. Now, as training camp kicks off, Cleveland is looking to bounce back from an ugly 2024 campaign.
The team’s first major move this offseason was addressing the situation with Myles Garrett. The former Defensive Player of the Year had grown frustrated with the state of the organization. Ultimately, both sides came to an agreement, and Garrett signed a contract extension worth $40 million annually.
Now that camp is underway, Garrett isn’t hiding his expectations — either for himself or for the team.
“I expect to get to the Super Bowl. That’s our expectation every year,” Garrett said. “I expect to run back Defensive Player of the Year. Keeping both of those things in mind, I have to be the best player that I can be every single day, whether we’re practicing or playing.
“As soon as I step foot in the building, I have to be the best version of myself and the best leader I can possibly be.”
Garrett is coming off another All-Pro season, finishing with 47 tackles and 14 sacks. Had the Browns performed better overall, there’s a strong chance he would have repeated as Defensive Player of the Year. Instead, the defense regressed and the team collapsed as a whole.
Jim Schwartz’s unit must bounce back in 2025, and the offense must be at least competent enough to put points on the board. Cleveland had one of the worst offensive seasons in recent memory, struggling to score in nearly every game.
While Garrett’s Super Bowl aspirations may be out of reach this season, it’s still the right mindset — and he’s taking the right approach.
With his new contract, many hoped Garrett would step into a more prominent leadership role. So far, it looks like he’s doing just that as the Browns open camp in Berea.
