Texas has three true freshmen that have a chance to make a huge impact during the 2025 CFB season
The Texas Longhorns are thought to be by many the No. 1 team in the country come opening day. A lot of the hype is around the returning production, but there are a few newcomers who can make a difference.
Texas kicks off the season August 30 at the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. The offseason has largely been about the defense bringing back several All-Americans and Arch Manning taking over for Quinn Ewers.
But, there is also a considerable amount of buzz around a few true freshmen who could potentially play a lot on Saturdays in 2025.
Let's take a look.
Justus Terry – DL
The former five-star prospect shocked everyone when he chose the Texas Longhorns over the home state Georgia Bulldogs. Now, he has his sights set on making an impact in the trenches for arguably the most talented defense in the country.
247Sports' Cooper Petagna likens his game to former Georgia All-American and current Philadelphia Eagle Jordan Carter. Terry is someone Texas could potentially count on down the stretch to dominate the interior. Sure, he still needs to work on honing his pass rush game, but the potential to step in immediately and plug the middle has folks buzzing in Austin.

Lance Jackson – EDGE
Another defensive line signee who should factor in to the rotation in 2025. The 6-foot-5, 254 pound prospect has the unique blend of athleticism and size. He's a "lean" 254 pounds, but don't sleep on his power. The former five-star was a two-way player in high school – lining up at tight end as well. So the skill set is unique and he is incredibly talented. Jackson is physically-gifted and could be someone, like Terry, who is in the mix early and often for Pete Kwiatkowski's defense.

Jonah Williams – Safety
Some think Williams might be the most talented prospect in all of the 2025 class. He did it all in high school. The dynamic multi-sport athlete made an impact for Texas' baseball team in 2025 and will now make his debut on the gridiron. I've seen him play just about everything – watching him line up and dominate at quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, linebacker and safety in 7v7 tournaments.
He did insane things on the basketball court in high school and was clocked as fast as 22.2 in the 200 meter dash. This is someone to be FIRED UP about if you're a Longhorns fan. Williams has loads of confidence and unmatched swagger. Bound to be a fan favorite before his time is over at Texas.
