Browns owner Jimmy Haslam answers the big question about former Ohio State RB Quinshon Judkins following his arrest
Jimmy Haslam told where things stand with Quinshon Judkins and his expectation on him playing in Cleveland.
Former Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested a couple of weeks ago in Florida on a charge of domestic violence and remains unsigned by the Cleveland Browns. In fact, Judkins is the only player from the 2025 NFL Draft who has not yet signed his rookie contract.
Cleveland now faces a decision on whether to offer Judkins a fully guaranteed rookie contract, knowing he has an arrest on record before even participating in his first training camp.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was asked about Judkins for the first time by the media on Tuesday and responded when asked whether he believes Judkins will ultimately play for Cleveland.
“I do, but we all understand due process… but yes, we’re cautiously optimistic,” Haslam stated.
It appears the Browns are letting the legal process play out before addressing Judkins’ future on the field. This marks the second straight year the team has dealt with a rookie being arrested during training camp. Last year, former Ohio State defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. was arrested in connection with a domestic dispute.
“Let me say it’s extremely frustrating,” Haslam said of these incidents. “Obviously, we’re not communicating as well as we should, and we take responsibility for that. We have internal resources, we have external resources. We talk about it continually, and it’s something that we need to do a better job on — but it is frustrating.”
Judkins must resolve his legal situation before likely facing some form of suspension from the NFL. Not being on the field preparing for his rookie season is far from ideal for the young running back.
At this time, there is no timeline for when Judkins may join the team on the practice field with a signed contract. For now, Cleveland seems committed to allowing him to address his off-field issues before turning the focus back to football.
