Former Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott was praised this week by one of his Kansas City Chiefs teammates for a “difficult” skill that usually takes a couple of years for players to learn in the NFL.
Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu told reporters on Wednesday that Norman-Lott has great hand usage, something that took him three or four years to master after reaching the NFL.
“Omarr has a great usage of his hands,” said Omenihu. “Very explosive. I noticed early on that he’s able to grab wrists, something that it took me about three or four years to be able to do that.”
“That’s just a lot of hand-eye coordination,” added Omenihu. “That’s something that he definitely practiced over in Tennessee. Something that they probably teach. Because like I said, as a rusher, being able to long arm it, grab wrists, grab elbows, take guys’ hands off of you like that, I think it’s something that’s a learned skill. Something that’s pretty difficult.”
Not only is that a compliment for Norman-Lott, but it’s also a big compliment for Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner, who is widely considered one of the best defensive line coaches in college football.
Norman-Lott was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Chiefs. He’s quickly impressed teammates and coaches since arriving in Kansas City, which signals that he should have a key role in the Chiefs’ defense this fall.
