Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker is being tough on himself after his performance in the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the Hall of Fame game last week.

Hooker, who played the second half against the Chargers, completed 3-of-6 passes for 18 yards and an interception in the 34-7 loss.

“I wish we had practice tomorrow,” said Hooker immediately after the game. “I’m just very disappointed in myself as far as — like I was saying earlier, just leading the troops down the field and making more plays.”

Hooker spoke to reporters a couple of days later and he still sounded pretty down on himself.

“A zero out of 10,” said Hooker when asked to rate his performance against the Chargers. “It wasn’t to my standards or the team’s standards of just being productive and controlling the huddle and making plays.”

Hooker, who is entering his third season in the NFL (all with the Lions), is battling veteran Kyle Allen for the backup quarterback job in Detroit.

The former Vol will get a chance to make up for his poor showing against Los Angeles when the Lions face the Atlanta Falcons on August 8. Head coach Dan Campbell announced that Hooker will start against Atlanta.
