The 2026 recruiting class has been an up-and-down cycle for the Ohio State Buckeyes. With 21 players already committed, Ohio State once again holds a top-10 class—but it may not be ranked as high as the staff would like.

After missing on several key targets over the past couple of months, the Buckeyes currently sit at No. 9 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

There is still one major priority target left on the board for Ohio State. The Buckeyes are chasing at least one five-star recruit in this class—and he’s the ideal player to take over once Caleb Downs heads to the NFL.

Ohio State has to close with five-star S Bralan Womack

The No. 1 safety in the country, Bralan Womack, is set to announce his college decision on Aug. 21—and Ohio State is currently the favorite. Still, the Buckeyes need to finish strong in this recruitment, as nothing is finalized yet.

“He’s still waiting for Ohio State to make their push,” Womack’s father told Rivals. “They’re nibbling away and nibbling, but they haven’t come out and said, ‘This is what we’re going to do to get Bralan Womack.’”

In today’s recruiting landscape, things can change quickly with the influence of NIL deals and revenue-sharing opportunities. Ohio State already has two highly rated safeties committed in Blaine Bradford and Simeon Caldwell. Caldwell could eventually move down into the box, but for now, the Buckeyes are trying to complete a potentially elite safety trio.

Womack is ranked as the No. 15 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite and holds offers from over 30 programs. Multiple recruiting analysts have predicted Ohio State to land Womack, which would mark a significant win for the class.

Florida, Auburn, and Texas A&M remain in the mix, and the Gators have made a strong push in recent weeks. After missing on multiple top targets in July, landing Womack in August is crucial for Ohio State.
