A Tennessee Vols transfer addition that hasn’t made much noise this offseason is starting to show up in practice.

Earlier this year, Tennessee made a popular addition to the roster by landing former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Amari Jefferson out of the transfer portal.

Jefferson is a former four-star recruit from Chattanooga who signed with Alabama over Tennessee during the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The Tennessee native suffered a hip injury at Alabama, which limited him in the spring in Knoxville.

VolQuest’s Austin Price joined 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will and he pointed out that Jefferson was praised “quite a bit” Tuesday morning at Tennessee’s practice.

“One player that I’ve continued to hear [who] just does not practice consistently — learning to practice like a college kid is something that he’s still trying to figure out — is Amari Jefferson,” said Price. “Amari Jefferson got a ton of praise this morning. And if I’m him, it’s really go time, right? I mean, you have all of these opportunities in front of you to go and showcase it.

“He got quite a bit of praise on the practice field this morning. So that, to me, is good to see for Amari — because he’s trying to get back in the thick of things…so to get some praise for him, I thought was good from the offensive staff during a red zone period where they were throwing routes on air in the end zone and those types of things.”

Tennessee doesn’t have a lot of depth at wide receiver. Jefferson developing into a reliable option in the passing game would go a long way in helping the Vols’ depth at wide receiver improve.

Jefferson is still finding his groove, and he’ll likely go through some up-and-down moments in camp, but it at least sounds like he’s starting to trend in the right direction.
