The injury bug has hit the Indianapolis Colts hard in recent weeks. During Sunday’s training camp practice, they saw multiple starters leave early, one of which was the team’s leading WR in 2024, Alec Pierce.
After practice, head coach Shane Steichen shared that Pierce is dealing with a groin injury, but didn’t have a time window for how much time he could miss. This led many to worry, especially after a cart came out to take him off the practice field after he tested out the injury. Thankfully, it seems he has avoided a serious injury, though, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared an update on Pierce’s status.
C0lts WR Alec Pierce avoids serious injury and is considered day to day

Pierce had his breakout season in 2024, setting new career highs with 824 yards and seven touchdowns. He also led the NFL in yards per reception with 22.3 yards. The team’s former second-round pick was finally able to showcase his ability as a deep threat in the NFL, and it paid off greatly for him and the Colts. He now enters the 2025 season with the highest expectations of his career, as he enters the final year of his rookie contract and hopes to secure a significant extension in the near future.
Seeing him go down with an injury in practice created significant worry. If he had to miss any time, it would be a considerable loss, no matter which QB wins the ongoing battle to be the starter between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. The Colts are set to take the field for a joint practice on Thursday with the Green Bay Packers ahead of their preseason matchup in week two. I personally wouldn’t be shocked if the Colts play it safe with Pierce and let him rest this week, then look to get him back on the field during the buildup for their final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The important thing is it sounds pretty clear that this injury won’t impact his status for the regular season, and that feels like a win.
