NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans signed center Lloyd Cushenberry to a four-year, $50 million deal in March 2024 as a long term solution at a critical position. Cushenberry, who tore his Achilles tendon nine weeks into last season, was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday and will be essential support for 2025 No. 1 overall pick at quarterback Cam Ward.

Tennessee had been starting reserve lineman Corey Levin in Cushenberry’s stead.

Coach Brian Callahan expressed optimism about his starting center’s return on Sunday.

“Timeline-wise, I’ll probably refrain from giving a timeline, but it’s encouraging that, hopefully, we’ll
get (Cushenberry) on the practice field with the group this week for the return to play process,” said Callahan. “Feel good about where he’s at. He’s worked really hard. There’s optimism that he’s on the right track. And again, we’ll see as he gets out there. So encouraged though by where he was at.”

An Achilles injury to a player Cushenberry’s size must be managed carefully.

Listed at 6-4, 315 lbs, the 2020 Denver Broncos third-round pick looked like a viable solution for a team in need of offensive line stability. Cushenberry allowed no sacks, one quarterback hit and only 14 total pressures in 499 offensive snaps for the Titans, according to Pro Football Focus. As Tennessee looks to bring Ward along as the franchise’s future, Cushenberry’s return to play is so important to the young quarterback’s success.

Tennessee will open its 2025 regular season in Denver against Cushenberry’s former team on September 7.
