Orangebloods’ Geoff Ketchum is as dialed in as any on the Texas Longhorns beat. On Sunday, he posted some thoughts about fall camp and the second scrimmage. One name stood out and it’s apparently very obvious of how dominant he has been.

“Ryan Wingo is the offensive MVP of camp at the wide receiver position,” Ketchum said. “He’s simply different than any other receiver on campus.”

As a freshman, Wingo had 29 receptions for 472 yards and two touchdowns in a loaded wide receiver room. Now, he takes on a huge responsibility as one of the top pass-catchers in the room.

“Arch Manning doesn’t turn the ball over and looks for Ryan Wingo.”

I recently wrote about how Manning-Wingo might be the next big duo to come out of Austin. Now, it seems to be even more apparent as fall camp is close to wrapping up. The two sophomores have a tight-knit relationship going back to the summer when Manning went to St. Louis (Mo.) to help Wingo with his youth camp. And it’s continued in practice as the two prepare for the August 30 opener.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian is very high on this team, per Ketchum. Sure you could chalk it up to coach speak. But, the Longhorns are preseason No. 1 for a reason.

“Steve Sarkisian loves this team. He makes a point to gush about its practices. He gushes about the depth. He gushes about the leadership. He gushes about C.J. Baxter. He gushes about his young players. He gushes about his defense. He gushes about Ryan Wingo.”

It’s no shock many expect Ryan Wingo to be WR1 in 2025.

Tommy Bresee certainly isn’t surprised.

“According to insiders, Manning and Wingo connected for three scores in the scrimmage during different sessions,” Bresee said. “That is a connection Texas is going to need to click this year if they want the offense to reach its potential. Wingo is proving to be the star Texas fans felt he would be when he came in as a freshman.

“This is one of the most talented players on the Longhorns roster. He has unique speed for his size and I believe he can be not only WR1 for Texas, but could lead the SEC in receiving yards this year,” Bresee said. “Everything is off to a great start for the sophomore, but he and Manning will have to take this connection into the season for the Horns to get the win in Columbus.”

As mentioned above, the expectation is for Manning and Wingo to be the one, two punch for Texas this year. Both have all the makings of doing it, too. Manning is being mentioned in the Heisman Trophy conversation, the Longhorns are expected to be back in Atlanta for the SEC championship game, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Texas once again in the CFP field.

If all of this happens, it will be because Ryan Wingo is in the thick of it – making life miserable for opposing secondaries and dancing in the end zone with Arch Manning.
