Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong wrote about the comings and goings in high school recruiting Monday. And the Nebraska Cornhuskers are in the mix for some of the nation’s elite. In fact, Wiltfong thinks they might just be getting started.
So far, Rhule and Co., have two early 2027 pledges. One from the No. 2 overall safety, Tory Pittman, and another from the No. 16 overall prospect, Trae Taylor. Both were huge wins for Nebraska on the recruiting trail, winning out over a who’s who list of offers.
Now, the Cornhuskers have its sights set on some more blue chip talent.
Nebraska in the mix early for some of the nation’s best.
“They’re in the lead group for the nation’s No. 1 tight end Ahmad Hudson, top-ranked offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, the No. 2 defensive lineman Albert Simien and No. 4 ranked cornerback Juju Johnson,” Wiltfong said. “Beyond those three elite prospects, four-stars in running back Isaiah Rogers, tight end Cooper Terwilliger, receiver Tay Ellis and safety Robert Geathers are a few other top-of-the-board names Nebraska is building momentum with.”
Hudson is the main one who sticks out here early. The Ruston (La.) native has legitimate interest in Rhule’s program and a game to match the level of play he wants for his skill guys.
“Large, athletic pass-catching target who owns promising snaps at wideout and as a traditional attached tight end. Highly instinctive in the air with late-adjustment skill and body control, especially considering the size,” 247Sports national analyst Gabe Brooks said. “Encouraging sophomore season context in regards to catch-window maximization via height/length/athleticism combination. Knows how to go get it and possesses the physical tools and explosiveness to do so.
“Particularly impressive second-jump athleticism on the basketball court that should translate to ball-winning ability in pads. Played varsity as a freshman, but sophomore season featured breakout productivity,” Brooks said. “Also revealed a convicted blocker who simply needs to clean up technique. Early in the 2027 process, looks like one of the highest-ceiling pass catchers in the country.”
Albert Simien has instant impact potential in the middle.
He recently took a trip to Lincoln for a camp and to meet with the Nebraska staff. He came away impressed and even more intrigued. Especially with offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.
“He brings the whole group together,” Simien said. “Everything’s really oriented about being a full family on and off the field.”
“Mostly their culture and their whole approach to treatment and preventing injuries has really impressed me and my family.”
It’ll be a tough head-to-head battle with Penn State, but Nebraska is in early on Isaiah Rogers.
“Rogers is a dynamic running back with a great size-speed combination. He has excellent vision, solid change-of-direction and good vision, with the ability to be a home-run threat if he finds an opening on defense,” 247Sports Bryan Ault said. “He has a chance to develop into an even-better prospect over the next two seasons.
“Freshman track All-American; has a very good size-speed combination: weighs over 200 pounds but runs like he’s a 170,” Ault said. “Big and bulky running back who appears to love the gym. Tough and strong tailback with good burst and top-end speed; decisive one-cut-and-go runner.”
Just from a visual standpoint, Rogers looks like he comes from an exact mold of Saquon Barkley. Penn State already has a stronghold on the northeast, especially at running back. But, the fact he is already looking at Nebraska and visiting is a major plus for Rhule and his staff.
Overall, this is a great sign for Nebraska fans who have been clamoring for the days of old a la Tommie Frazier, Eric Crouch, and Bo Pelini. There’s certainly reason for optimism in 2025 for Huskers fans. Rhule had back-to-back 10 win seasons at Temple, went 11-3 at Baylor, and is now coming off a 7-6 season with a Pinstripe Bowl win.
The vibes are high at Nebraska and the recruiting trail reflects it and then some.
