August 30 is the grand opening of the 2025 college football season (all due respect to Week 0). The Texas Longhorns travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. And some of the top prospects in the country will be there.
Orangebloods reports the Buckeyes staff expects to have at least 54 prospects/commits on campus for the noon kickoff. Several of those in attendance currently hold offers from the Texas Longhorns.
Let’s get to know those who do and the latest with their recruitment.
Thomas is currently committed to the Buckeyes, but holds a Texas offer. But, for now, it would appear Texas has moved on and the 6-foot-7, 300 pound prospect is solid in his commitment to Ohio State. He’s a Florida State legacy and chose OSU over Florida State, Texas A&M, and Washington.
247Sports’ No. 1 overall prospect is a wanted man. Plain and simple. But, Texas has turned its attention to a few other signal callers, most notably in-state four-star Kavian Bryant. Texas and Midlands expert Mike Roach gave his thoughts on where Haven’s recruitment sits currently:
“LSU has been in the picture for a while, but Florida, Baylor, Florida State, Auburn and Georgia are all making a push. North Louisiana has a pair of high-end passers who have been closely linked throughout their career.”
Roberts is a big-bodied, well-built, dual-sport athlete from an Arizona powerhouse. At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds and a track star who has been clocked at 10.77 in the 100-meter dash, he is one of the premier targets at his position. 247Sports’ Blair Angulo gives the latest rumblings here:
“It’s early for me but some schools I have started to like and build really good relationships with are Texas, Oregon, Arizona State, Ohio State and Washington. … It’s early for me, next up is probably a top 12 or 10, and then just narrow things down from there.”
Gabriel Georges is an elite running back with a lot of upside to his game. He is still relatively new to the sport – moving to Chattanooga, Tenn., from Canada. But, he is a quick study and won Tennessee’s Division II-AAA Mr. Football award in 2024. As of now, I would put Ohio State at the top of the list here. 247Sports’ Mark Porter has a comp for him, too:
“Think speed and explosiveness that translates into burst while still being comfortable within the tackles. A bigger J.K. Dobbins is the best comparison. Gabriel Georges might have better top-end speed and breakaway potential but runs with great pad level in traffic like Dobbins.”
One of the top-end runners in the 2027 class, Royal has elite speed. Being from New Orleans, though, these kinds of recruitments always feel like LSU’s to lose. Royal spoke with Roach about his logistical plan for the fall:
“I’ve got a few visits in the works, but they aren’t completely set yet,” Royal said. “I’m just waiting on them to get finalized. I’d like to see LSU, Florida, Oregon, Clemson, Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Ohio State, but nothing is finalized yet. I’d really like to see Ohio State and Texas and USC and Oregon.”
Williams is another Top 40 prospect with a who’s who offer sheet. The 6-foot-5, 210 pound recruit has taken multiple visits to Ohio State and Bill Kurelic says the interest in the Buckeyes is “legit”.
One of the more talented dudes in the 2027 secondary class, Outhouse is another track speedster with incredible athleticism. He spoke with Roach about who is standing out and where he wants to go this fall, starting with Ohio State.
“Oklahoma, Arizona State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Texas, Michigan, and Washington. Alabama has been hitting me up a lot lately,” Outhouse said. “I can’t forget about SMU either.
“I’m trying to lock in the Aug. 30 game with Ohio State and Texas, but I’ll for sure be at Oklahoma versus Michigan on Sept. 6,” Outhouse said. “I want to go to the Tennessee and Georgia game. I’ll be at the Red River Rivalry on the Texas side. Oct. 18 I’ll be at Michigan versus Washington. I don’t know what game, but I plan to be at Notre Dame this fall.”
