Let’s set aside talk about whether or not Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys will strike a long-term deal before the start of the 2025 NFL season. Instead, let’s cut right to the chase.

Under two weeks away from the NFL Kickoff, the question many fans are worried about today is: Will Parsons play Week 1 versus the Philadelphia Eagles?

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer all but confirmed the strong suspicion that he is when addressing reporters on Sunday when he revealed Parsons’ MRI results for a back injury had come back.

“It sounds like the MRI came back pretty clean,” Schottenheimer told reporters via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

The comment matters because of this: If Parsons misses game action while healthy, he stands to lose paychecks worth north of $1 million per week. Considering the Cowboys will have little to no motivation to trading him given they could realistically control his future for the next three years, Parsons would accomplish nothing by missing out on the money.

In other words, if Parsons was going to hold out from playing in regular season games as a negotiation tactic, the only viable way to do so would’ve been to play the “my back is hurt” game. With Schottenheimer indicating the MRI came back pretty clean, that option appears to be off the table.

Parsons’ preseason holdout is now complete and whether he and Jerry Jones—accompanied by agent David Mulugheta, of course—sit down to talk or not, No. 11 is playing when the season starts.

The question is if he’ll be anywhere near 100% and how long it will take him to get there.
