Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel told reporters on Monday that he anticipates that sophomore defensive back Boo Carter will play in the season-opener against Syracuse on Saturday.
Carter has been limited in practice as he works his way back into the good graces of teammates and coaches after missing various team activities over the summer.
“Yeah, anticipate that,” said Heupel when asked if he thinks Carter will play against Syracuse. “For all of us during the course of this week, it’s still learn it, earn it, and taking a job and proving that you’re ready.”
It’s unclear how much action Carter will see against Syracuse. It’s also unclear if he’ll play any on offense, as was the plan before he missed team activities during the summer months.
Syracuse head coach Fran Brown says Boo Carter is a “good kid”
Syracuse head coach Fran Brown met with reporters on Monday to preview the game against Tennessee and he offered some comments on Boo Carter.
“To be able to see Boo Carter, I’ll be excited to see him,” said Brown. “I thought he was a good kid in being able to recruit him. I think he might be playing both ways. I’m not really sure what he’s doing. I think he’s the star, but he’s done a good job at the nickel position.”
Brown certainly isn’t alone in not knowing what Carter will be doing in Saturday’s game — Vols fans are anxiously awaiting that answer, too.
