Jaden Greathouse has career day, and early Jeremiyah Love Heisman moment highlight Notre Dame Hot Takes heading into Miami matchup
Notre Dame offensive hot takes heading into matchup against the Miami Hurricanes
We are just five days away from Notre Dame finally kicking off the 2025 college football season. They will be traveling down to Hard Rock Stadium to take on the Miami Hurricanes, a fun rivalry between two top-10 football teams who have a competitive hatred for each other. It should be a fun overall matchup.
All eyes will be on the Fighting Irish offense, which will be breaking in CJ Carr at quarterback for his first career start. Most Notre Dame fans are excited, but they also aren’t totally sure what to expect on this side of the football, at least on Sunday night. The unknown can be a little scary, but extremely exciting as well.
Here are some hot takes I have for the Irish offense in that opener against Miami.
1. Jaden Greathouse sets a personal best
After a pretty quiet season overall, including eight games with one reception or less, Greathouse exploded during the last two games of 2024 against Penn State and Ohio State. In those two contests, the rising junior managed to haul in 13 receptions for 233 yards and three touchdowns. The hope is that Greathouse picks up where he left off, and I expect him to look sharp. As the slot receiver in the Irish offense, I also expect Greathouse to be the main target for CJ Carr as a middle of the field threat. I’m predicting that we see the most receptions in a game for Greathouse in his career, which currently sits at seven. If he is able to make eight or more catches, I don’t necessarily think it’ll be for a ton of explosive plays, but it’ll keep the chains moving.
2. No offensive turnovers
With CJ Carr making his first career start at quarterback for the Fighting Irish, it feels like a safe bet that there will be some mistakes, and some potential turnover worthy plays. While some might find it unlikely, I do believe that the offense will play a pretty clean game. There will be a couple of sacks given up, and some missed throws, but I’m predicting no turnovers. In this type of game, and environment, I have a feeling that head coach Marcus Freeman and the staff will do their best to limit mistakes, and lean on the running game to set up easy opportunities off of play action.
3. Jeremiyah Love begins Heisman campaign
As you know, the Heisman Trophy is typically a quarterback centric award. You have to have a truly magnificent performance for either running backs or wide receivers to win it, especially in the biggest games on the schedule. It’s early in the season, but Love has a massive big game opportunity on Sunday against Miami. While all eyes will be on him, I expect the dynamic runner to make several big plays on the ground, and in the passing game. Last season didn’t end the way Love wanted due to injury, and I expect him to come out hungry. Look for 150+ total yards and two touchdowns on Sunday night.
