When the Tennessee Vols take the field against the Syracuse Orange on Saturday in Atlanta, UT junior tight end Ethan Davis will be glad that one of his teammates is not on the other side of the ball.

Davis recently appeared on the TPL Tennessee YouTube channel and he was asked which of his teammates he would not want to play against.

The former four-star recruit quickly pointed out junior linebacker Arion Carter as the teammate he’s happy he doesn’t have to face.

“Arion Carter — a lot of respect for my boy,” said Davis. “I love that he’s on my team. He’s not on anybody else’s, he’s on my team. Therefore I don’t have to worry about that.”

Vols true freshman tight end Jack Van Dorselaer also pointed out Carter as the teammate he’d least like to play against.

“I gotta go AC also,” said Van Dorselaer. “I’m glad I get to go against him in practice — he makes me better. Come game day, though, he’s someone you really don’t want to mess with.”

Carter is poised for a breakout season as he enters his third year in Tennessee’s defense.

The Tennessee native, in fact, could be off to the NFL next spring if he has a strong 2025 season.

“Arion Carter is one that will rally the troops,” said VolQuest’s Austin Price last month during an appearance on 99.1 The Sports Animal. “He’s the guy that in the pregame will give the Drew Brees speech. He’s that type of player. A year ago, it was Dylan Sampson. So it certainly feels like he’s ready to take off. This is a real opportunity for him this year. This, to me, is a contract year — if he has a really good year, he’s off to the NFL. So he’s motivated. He’s an in-state kid. He wears the Power T with pride, and it feels like he’s ready to go boom.”

Carter finished the 2024 season with a career high 68 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and one interception.
