Final cuts for the Cincinnati Bengals are over, but many of those who were released or waived earlier this week will return to join the club’s 16-man practice squad.

The NFL increased the maximum size of the practice squad to 16 players to help teams out during the COVID-19 pandemic. 10 of the 16 players need to have no more than two accrued seasons to their name, but the other six can be vested veterans of all kinds. Each practice squad member can be elevated to the active roster a maximum of three times, and can be signed to the 53-man roster by their own club or any other club for that matter at any point in time.

Simply put, the practice squad can matter a whole lot throughout the year. The Bengals have 14 players on their initial practice squad, which can be seen below:

Bengals 2025 Practice Squad

  • RB Gary Brightwell
  • OT Devin Cochran
  • OT Andrew Coker
  • CB Jalen Davis
  • LB Joe Giles-Harris
  • G Jaxson Kirkland
  • CB Bralyn Lux
  • C Seth McLaughlin
  • RB Kendall Milton
  • WR Jordan Moore
  • LB Maema Njongmeta
  • QB Brett Rypien

Every player listed above, aside from Rypien, was with the Bengals this offseason. Rypien, the nephew of former NFL QB and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, is a former undrafted free agent signing of the Denver Broncos. He spent the first four years of his career in Denver, playing in eight games and making three starts. He’s since had stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and most recently, the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota released Rypien earlier this week after completing 15 of 29 passes for 151 yards and an interception in three preseason games.

Cincinnati’s regular season begins with a Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Sept. 7.
