The Lions announce their 16-man practice squad, one spot is open and one player is curiousuly missing

On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions had a super busy day that included trading Tim Patrick to the Jaguars, signing a new safety, and claiming two defensive linemen from the waiver wire. After all that, they gathered 16 players together to form their 16-man practice squad. Here’s the group:

There are some big ones here. Lions fans were clamoring to get Jackson Meeks back after he was waived on Monday, and now here he is. We’ll see soon enough if this is a situation similar to Tim Patrick last year, where he was a practice squad elevation before getting signed to the 53-man roster. Either that or there are no real plans to use him right now.
Curiously missing is safety Ian Kennelly. At one point, it looked like he was going to make this 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but the Lions opted to go with Daniel Thomas instead. Now we wait to see who gets that final spot and if it will be Kennelly.
Some intriguing names to pay attention to are Myles Adams, Cooper Jr., and Colon. Adams is someone who could see some elevations before Alim McNeill comes back. Lions head coach Dan Campbell brought him up multiple times this summer. Cooper seemed like a lock to make the 53-man roster at the end of the summer, but he didn’t get the spot. The Lions went with the veteran Chris Smith instead. As for Colon, I think Detroit News’ Nolan Bianchi makes a strong point here.
