Former Tennessee Vols running back Jaylen Wright received some brutal news just as the 2025 NFL season is set to get underway.
Wright, who is entering his second season with the Miami Dolphins, is expected to miss at least the first few weeks of the season after undergoing a procedure.
The former Vol has missed time recently due to a leg injury.
This is tough news for Wright, who was expected to enter the 2025 season in Miami as the top backup to starting running back De’Von Achane.
Achane has been dealing with a calf injury for the last couple of weeks. He’s expected to be ready for the Dolphins’ Week One matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Calf injuries, however, can be tricky. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Miami is cautious with his workload over the next few weeks. With Achane not quite 100 percent, it means that the No. 2 running back in Miami should see plenty of action early in the season.
That means Wright would’ve had a golden opportunity to build on his rookie season (249 rushing yards on 68 carries as a rookie last season). Instead, that opportunity will likely go to rookie Ollie Gordon II, who has had a terrific preseason.
If Gordon plays well while Wright is out, it could push the former Vol down Miami’s depth chart. It’s a tough break for Wright, but the good news is that he’s only 22 years old — he still has plenty of time to recover and make an impact in the NFL.
