Buckeye Nation isn’t going to be fond of the officiating crew that was picked for Ohio State vs. Texas in Columbus

That is an interesting pick to officiate this game.

We’re just one day away from a massive Week 1 showdown in college football as the Ohio State Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns in Columbus.

There’s plenty of hype surrounding this matchup—and for good reason. Arch Manning is leading No. 1 Texas into Ohio Stadium to begin his era as the Longhorns’ quarterback. On the other side, the Buckeyes are fresh off a national championship and will debut Julian Sayin as their new starter under center.

But there’s one aspect of this game that Ohio State fans won’t be thrilled about.

SEC officiating crew assigned to Ohio State–Texas matchup

Despite it being a home game for the Buckeyes, the officiating crew will come from the SEC for this No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle.

This isn’t unique to just Ohio State and Texas. For example, Big Ten officials will work the Syracuse–Tennessee game, ACC officials are set for LSU–Clemson, and Alabama–Florida State will also have an ACC crew.

While the outcome won’t be decided by officiating, Buckeye fans will likely feel uneasy knowing that SEC officials will accompany Texas to The Shoe to kick off the season. Still, the actual game has to be played and how each team plays is going to determine the outcome at the end of the day.

Kickoff is set for noon on Fox, with both Big Noon Kickoff and ESPN’s College GameDay broadcasting live from Columbus. College football is finally back, though Ohio State fans are not going to like the referee decision for Week 1.
