Cowboys fan conspiracy theory surrounding Micah Parsons trade takes a major blow as college football season gets underway
The theory never made sense in the first place.
I don’t know if it’s a part of a grieving process or something people genuinely believe following the Micah Parsons trade, but there’s a portion of the Dallas Cowboys’ fanbase that genuinely believes the deal was the first step of a masterplan by the front office.
The plan? Tank for Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning. Heck, it’s not even limited to the fans. Dez Bryant tweeted “Arch Manning will have a star on his helmet. Nobody can tell me different.” Media personalities have discussed it on live TV.
Well, that conspiracy theory took a major blow on Saturday when the Longhorns lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes in a 14-7 defensive showdown. Manning completed 56% of his pass attempts for 170 yards (5.7 yards per attempt), one touchdown, and one interception.
Saturday proved we don’t even know who Arch Manning is as an NFL prospect
For most of the game, Manning was indecisive in the pocket, he was late on reads, and he even had accuracy issues, including an underthrow that resulted on an interception in the third quarter. He looked like a guy whose got a long ways to go before we put a “future NFL star” label on him.
And hey, that’s perfectly fine. I’m not saying Manning will not be good eventually. In the fourth quarter, he settled down and made good throws, including a stellar pass into tight coverage in the last drive of the game. I am, however, saying we don’t even know who the 21-year-old kid is as an NFL prospect. Heck, we’re still figuring out who he is as a college football quarterback. Keep in mind, the rumored plan is for Manning to declare for the NFL Draft until 2027. Yet we’re theorizing about the Cowboys tanking for him by getting rid of Micah Parsons?
That’s a humongous leap. Not to mention, we can’t give the Cowboys’ front office that much credit. This group was trying to extend Parsons just weeks ago while firmly stating they had no intentions to trade Parsons. Were this the kind of front office to plot for massive plans years in advance, they would have shopped Parsons earlier.
So if you hear anyone claiming the Cowboys are thinking about Manning in the fall of 2025, ignore it. It’s nothing but noise. Take what happened Saturday as a reminder of it.
